NEW YORK, October 8, 2024 – The Human Immunome Project (HIP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert N. Klein to the Board of Directors.
“Robert Klein is a proven leader and a committed advocate dedicated to better health for all,” said Board Chair Jane Metcalfe. “We are excited to welcome him to the Human Immunome Project and eager to add his expertise to our growing and dynamic Board.”
Robert is the Chairman and President of Klein Financial Corporation, a California-based apartment and mixed-use developer. For six years, Robert served as a Board Member of the California Housing Finance Agency. He has a long record of public service and charitable commitments, including in developing new programs of government funding for affordable multifamily housing and in medical research, including authoring California’s $3 billion 2004 Stem Cell Research and Clinical Trial Initiative and serving as the new funding agency’s first Governing Board Chairman (2004-2010). In 2020, Robert served as the author and Chairman of California’s Proposition 14, a $5.5 billion ballot initiative that expanded the funding to advance stem cell research and clinical trials. He has additionally served as a patient advocate for diabetes, acting as principal negotiator on a team that passed a $1.5B federal funding bill for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. He has also supported initiatives to address cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Mr. Klein is a frequent speaker at conferences, and was named one of the 10 Most Influential Thinkers by Time Magazine, in 2005; concurrently, Scientific American named him as one of the Scientific American’s 50, as a leader shaping the future of science. He received a Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School and a B.A. in History from Stanford University. He lives in Northern California with his wife and children.
