Jane Metcalfe is the CEO and founder of proto.life, a weekly newsletter, website, book, and events company tracking how digital tools and an engineering mindset are revolutionizing human biology. She is chair of the Human Immunome Project, a global non-profit working to decode the immune system in order to transform how we prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. She is also co-chair of the Futures Council of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation and advises various startups.

Prior to that, Metcalfe made chocolate on a pier in San Francisco as the President of TCHO Chocolate, whose TCHOSource program has transformed the lives of cacao farmers in Latin America and Africa.

She is probably best known for her role as the co-founder and former president of Wired Ventures, Inc., a diversified media company whose businesses included Wired Magazine (US, UK, and Japanese editions), Wired Digital, and Wired Books. Metcalfe is an entrepreneur, editor, publisher, investor, and advisor, experienced in harnessing new ideas to create strong brands, rapidly grow businesses, and lead healthy, creative, mission-driven organizations. She was recently honored with a Webby Award for Lifetime Achievement.
